Multiplication as a Board Move

XOMath takes the familiar tic-tac-toe grid and adds a gatekeeping step: before you can claim a square, you must solve a multiplication equation. The board still rewards the same spatial thinking—blocking rows, building diagonals, forcing your opponent into a corner—but every placement now depends on getting the arithmetic right. A wrong answer passes the turn, so accuracy matters as much as positioning.

Turn Flow and Win Condition

On your turn, you select a square and receive a multiplication problem tied to that spot. Solve it correctly to place your X or O. Fail, and the turn goes to the other player. The first to line up three of their marks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins. Because a missed equation can hand momentum to your opponent, the game creates pressure that pure tic-tac-toe lacks.

Two-Player Competition

Designed for two players, XOMath works as a head-to-head challenge where each participant alternates between calculation and strategy. The multiplayer format encourages quick mental math under a competitive timer of sorts—not a literal clock, but the social pressure of an opponent waiting on your answer. It suits classroom settings, family play, or any pair looking to sharpen multiplication recall.

Who It Serves

Created by Omar Barakat with an idea from Abdull-alla Sultan, the game targets students building multiplication fluency and anyone wanting low-stakes mental exercise. The tic-tac-toe shell keeps rounds short, while the math layer adds a skill check that scales with the player's own knowledge. It is a learning tool disguised as a board game, and it works because the arithmetic is not optional—it is the only way to move.
